All of the "True Pilates" instructors at Pilates in the Village have gone through a rigorous training program at "Pilates Seattle International" (formally “The Pilates Studio of Seattle”) led under the direction of Lori Colman-Brown, Lauren Stephen and Jodie Stoltz using the “Romana’s Pilates” training program. The program applications are accepted after a minimum of 80 lessons with a “Romana’s Pilates” instructor or the “Pilates Studio” name prior to the change to “Romana’s Pilates”. This program can take up to 1.5 years, after all of the prerequisites have been met. It really takes a commitment to be an instructor. All of the instructors at Pilates in the Village are also required to continue taking lessons from “Pilates Seattle International” on a weekly basis. Along with continuing weekly lessons, all of the instructors take a minimum of one Continuing Education course per year to maintain certification. Pilates is a journey and does not end once an instructor is “Certified”.

Within the last seven years, the “Certified Pilates Instructor” title has been used carelessly by many different, sub-par training programs. To be “Certified”, you can take as little as a weekend course in an “ala carte” training program or the full training program offered through “Romana’s Pilates”, requiring over 700 hours of apprenticeship. You really have to do your homework when seeking Pilates instruction. Be sure the place you choose truly has "Romana Pilates" trained instructors and the sessions offered are safe Pilates instruction, worth your time and the cost of the lessons.

Exercise in just about any form is wonderful for your body. Pilates is wonderful for your body. Injuries can happen in any exercise routine. Be sure to do your homework and be confident your instructor has had good, thorough training - no matter what exercise routine you choose.
