In 1996 I was 19 years old and decided to move to Seattle from Hawaii (the island of Oahu). Shortly after moving here I discovered Pilates. Life here has been a journey, but Pilates has remained a constant ever since.
After all of these years, I am certain of a few things.
I believe in being as passionate about work as in life (all though somehow being a workaholic has been hard to shake). Being dedicated to both creates energy that in turn will create success. Success is not a given with having a four or six or 10 year degree, or measured by how much you make. Rather how happy you are and how people will remember you.
I love and am thankful for many things in my life. Especially those close to me, my family (including my dog “Kaya”), friends and the clients that have given me passion for teaching. I have learned a lot from being a nanny and working in two great restaurants.
I enjoy things in nature, with blue skies and a warm ocean at the top of the list. I also enjoy all things related to homemaking. Along with continuing to dance the Hula, traveling is always something to look forward to.
Finally, I love Pilates! Doing it, teaching it, and continuing my education through lessons at P.S.I. , continuing education courses and daily teaching.
Experience
I was trained through Pilates Seattle International (formally The Pilates Studio of Seattle) Although my first lessons were late in 1996, it was not until 1999 that I began my formal training to be an instructor. I became certified in early 2001 and taught at Pilates Seattle International for over five years. I have been working with the competitive ice skaters of Highland Ice Arena since 2002. I worked at the Redmond Pilates Center for two and a half years, for a quarter at the U.W. Women's Center and briefly at Pilates Powerhouse NW.
As an instructor, you are never finished learning. However in 2006, I decided to leave the nest and open a studio of my own. I have been blessed to work with ages 8 to 85 and to have that studio in the community where I live.
